Police in Morley have secured funding for state-of-the-art mountain bikes in a bid to reduce crime in the area.
Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team applied to the town council for £2,000 to buy three bikes to enable them to get to incidents quicker than on foot.
Morley Borough Independent councillors have backed the local policing team by granting them the money.
Coun Shirley Varley said: “Crime levels have dropped across Morley over the last decade and anything we can do to support a continuing decline in crime levels can only benefit our communities.”
Morley NPT said that the provision of bikes would provide more access to a greater number of vulnerable residents and provide higher visibility within the community.”
In a linked bid the Outer South Area Committee is also supporting an application for financial support for the police off-road team to undertake more patrols across the Morley area.
