GCSE RESULTS: ‘Woodkirk still outstanding’ claims head

WOODKIRK Academy is celebrating again with outstanding GCSE results which, it says, cement its position as one of the premier schools in Leeds.

Headteacher Jonathan White said: “We are immensely pleased that our students have continued to achieve results in line with those judged by Ofsted as outstanding.

“It is a testament to the hard work of all at Woodkirk.

“Nationally there has been some controversy over English results. Despite this, we are very pleased that 67 per cent of our students achieved the gold standard 5A*-C including English and maths.”

That is a drop from last year when 70 per cent of students achieved at least five A*-C grades including English and mathematics and 83 per cent achieved at least five A*-C grades not including English and mathematics.

Nationally, GCSE grades have dropped slightly for the first time in the exam’s 24 year history after the Government stepped in to contain grade inflation.

Overall the proportion of tests awarded at least an A* to C grade is down 0.4 percent to 69.4 per cent.

Mr White went on to congratulate Talkeen Pandor who got eight A*s and two As, Ibrahim Malik who got seven A*s, two As and half a B, Georgina Fogarty who got six A*s, three As and half a B, Heather Noble who got six A*s and three As, Callum Wright who got six A*s, two As and a B, Emily McCarthy who got six A*s, Sophie Cross who got five A*s and four As, Leon Hall who got five A*s and four As and Natalie Alleston who got five A*s, three As and a B.
