St Peter’s Church in Gildersome is to host a special service, in partnership with funeral directors Bennett of Morley, at which bereaved relatives and friends can remember their loved ones.

The service, at 11am on Saturday, December 14, will be conducted by the vicar of St Peter’s, the Rev Felicity Lawson, and will feature Christmas carols, special readings and prayers and an opportunity to place the names of the deceased on a star which will be hung on a special Christmas remembrance tree in church.

Christine Bennett, of Bennett of Morley, said: “We would like to offer this opportunity to all bereaved relatives, particularly to those who have used our services during this and previous years.”

The firm will be providing lunch after the service which will be served by members of St Peter’s.

Churchwarden Steve Smith, said: “It is important that we open our doors and welcome bereaved relatives – particularly at this time of year. Christmas can be a very difficult time for bereaved families and giving them an opportunity to express their grief and feelings in this way is part of our ministry to the community and is our privilege.” During the service names will be read out a candle lit for each.
