Green fingered pupils get a helping hand from Rotary
Morley Rotary club have kindly donated a damson tree to Westerton Primary School.
Pupils have joined forces with a Morley club to help the environment.
Members of Morley Rotary Club, who have been keen to build links with the school, visited Westerton primary with a very special gift of a tree to help enhance the school’s pond area, which lacks any established trees since it was re-developed last year.
The club has already helped every member of the school plant a daffodil bulb on an unused piece of land in school grounds, which will hopefully look colourful in a few week’s time.
Rick Horton, Science and Technology Leader at Westerton primary, said: “The school is keen to continually develop and enrich the school grounds and we are working towards becoming a sustainable school. “Over the last few years, we have developed an extensive growing area which has helped the school kitchen to become more self sufficient using the crops grown and the eggs laid from our six chickens. Unfortunately, our relatively new greenhouse was vandalised recently hence the support of the Rotary club being always much appreciated.”
