Homes protest in Bruntcliffe

A BRUNTCLIFFE resident opposed to plans to build 200 houses on fields near her home has appealed to the local community for their support.

Christine Guy, a member of Morley Against Reckless Construction (MARC), has delivered 300 leaflets to homes around the area telling them about the outline planning application submitted to Leeds City Council by Barratt Homes and of a site visit planned for 10.30am tomorrow (Thursday).

The site visit is for members of the South West plans panel which is now dealing with applications in the Morley area following a reshuffle of the Leeds plans panels.

Previously members of the Plans Panel East visited the site and spoke to Mrs Guy and other residents who fear such a large housing estate would overwhelm the local infrastructure of roads, schools and doctors surgeries.

Mrs Guy said: “We have had 300 leaflets delivered and we are hoping the weather will stay fine for us and we’ll get a good turnout.”

She added that she was frustrated by the plans panel reorganisation which means they will have to start from scratch and try to get their points across to a new group of councillors, many of whom may be unfamiliar with the area.

“Why change planners in the middle of an application? “ she asked, adding: “Why not wait till all these applications have been decided and just send the new applications to the South West committee?”

She has however been given three minutes to address them at the plans meeting to be held in Leeds Civic Hall at 1.30pm after a round of site visits.

The new panel is also due to visit Daisy Hill, where Persimmon Homes wish to build 92 houses, at 11.10am.

Both applications have been recommended for approval by planning officers at Leeds City Council but are opposed by Morley Town Council’s planning committee.
