Today is a big day for Morley as the town embraces the Tour de France with its very own cycling festival.
The unveiling of a blue plaque honouring former cycling world champion Beryl Burton will be the highlight of Cyclemania as the town welcomes star of TV and stage, Maxine Peake.
Hundreds of people are expected to descent on Queen Street to enjoy a Yorkshire-themed farmers market and a parade featuring young riders on decorated bikes.
Organisers want the day to be a joint celebration of the impending Grand Depart and Morley’s most famous sporting star.
The ceremony will be held today (Sunday) at 2pm in Beryl Burton Gardens and will be attended by family members including her husband Charlie and daughter Denise Burton-Cole.
Maxine Peake, star of Shameless, The Village and Silk, will make her playwriting debut this month at the West Yorkshire Playhouse with an adaption of her radio play Beryl: A Love Story on Two Wheels.
Morley town centre should be a hive of activity with the Cyclemania event which will include food and craft market, starting at 10am.
Children are invited to join the celebrations by taking their decorated bikes along for a parade at noon, with prizes for the best.
