Life’s a picnic for Dartmouth Park volunteers
GOOD WORK: The team from Asda have been helping create a picnic area in Dartmouth Park. (NS)
THERE has been a big team effort down in Dartmouth Park where a new picnic area is taking shape.
Staff from Leeds City Council’s Parks and Countryside department have been working with the Friends of Dartmouth park to develop the area of the old botanic garden.
This month they were joined by 40 Asda staff who came to lend a hand.
Beatrice Myers who set up the friends group said: “Having their help was like a dream come true.
“The amount of effort that the team made was amazing. Without their help we would never have been able to dig through every nook and cranny of the garden, ready to get planting this autumn.
“They even barrowed masses of bark mulch to cover the ground in thickly shrubbed areas.
“We are incredibly grateful to them and to the wonderful park staff who made such efforts to help and advise on the day.”
She added: “Now we are sure that the friends can really make the garden a mass of colour and scent for visitors to enjoy.”
They are hoping to enter the garden in Yorkshire in Bloom next year.
Anyone who wishes to join them is welcome to call 07541692028 or just go and introduce themselves to members as they work.
