Limos lost to save council cash
LEEDS City Council is proposing to dispose of the two old limos currently being used for the Lord Mayor and replace them with one nearly new vehicle in a bid to save cash.
The costs of the two vehicles have been deemed too high and on several occasions they’ve broken down on the way to civic visits.
The new car will be aJaguar saloon as it was decided a new limo would be too expensive. It’s thought the move will save around £12,000 over the car’s seven-year life span.
Coun Peter Gruen, executive board member for neighbourhoods, planning and support services said the position of Lord Mayor was an important one for the city however “We are aware that these are difficult times for everyone and that we need to be saving money, so the decision to replace two cars with one, and not to buy new, will save us money in fuel and maintenance costs”.
