Local firm curries off an 'Oscar'
A TINGLEY company has curried favour with the judges of one of the country's leading culinary awards.
Prett and Paresh Tejura, who run their Indian food and cookery business, Curry Cuisine, from their home have won a prestigious food industry 'Oscar'.
They have been presented with a much-desired one star Gold Great Taste Award for their aubergine pickle.
The awards have been running for 15 years and the gold and black logo is seen as the benchmark for independently proven fine food.
Judges this year included farmer and former bass player with Blur Alex James, Charles Campion, food critic of the Independent, and Tom Parker-Bowles, writer and stepson of Prince Charles.
Curry Cuisine was the brainchild of passionate home cook Prett, who created the company out of a genuine love for cooking Indian food and to offer tuition to people who want to learn how to make authentic Indian cuisine.
The company is looking to develop more products using the best of Yorkshire produce as seen by the aubergine pickle (using Yorkshire grown aubergines) and rhubarb and mango, made from fruit from within the triangle.
Paresh Tejura, operations director of Curry Cuisine, said: "We are delighted with this award. Winning a Great Taste Award recognises the craft and dedication that goes into making superb hand produced food and by using locally grown produce it enhances the quality and taste of the pickle as shown by the accolade we have received."
