Marathon man raises 11K for St Gemma’s Hospice

Marathon man Craig Whiteley ran both the London and Boston marathons.

Morley’s own marathon man has raised almost £4,000 by taking on not one major marathon but two - over 3,000 miles apart.

Craig Whiteley took part in the London Marathon on April 13, completing the gruelling run in three hours, 25 minutes. But he didn’t give his feet too much time to rest, as just a week later he flew over to America to join thousands of others in the Boston Marathon on April 21, finishing in three hours 57 minutes.

He even ran the Leeds Half Marathon at the weekend, crossing the finish line in one hour 36 minutes.

Craig, 50, is no stranger to marathons, or raising money for St Gemma’s Hospice and is not stopping there.

He said: “I’m going to do the Paris Marathon next year and will be taking part in the Liverpool Marathon at the end of this month, which I’m hoping will qualify me again for next year in London.”

He thinks he has raised over £4,000 for St Gemma’s Hospice, which will take his total fundraising efforts for the charity over the years to £11,000.

Of Boston he said: “Everyone was out congratulating us all, giving us water and ice-pops. It was a brilliant atmosphere.”
