7 September 2012...... Oliver Dean and his fiance Hayley are set to be the first couple to tie the knot at the newly-appointed Leeds Minster.

A MORLEY couple’s big day made history when they became the first to be wed in the newly created Leeds Minster.

Haley Lawson and Dean Oliver married on Friday afternoon surrounded by friends and family.

Having decided they wanted a white wedding, they booked Leeds Parish Church for the ceremony - only for it to become a Minster just days before they tied the knot.

The honour marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was granted on September 2, the 171st anniversary of the consecration of the building in 1841.

Hayley, a sales consultant, said she had always dreamed of a church wedding but the event was beyond her expectations and she felt honoured to have a small place in the history of the building.

“It just makes your special day a little bit more special,” she said.

The couple who met at work have been together for two years.

Oliver popped the question last September.

He said: “It will be a privilege to get a line on Wikipedia and it will also be nice for family history.

“I’m a lucky man.”

The couple held their reception at Healds Hall Hotel in Liversedge and are planning a honeymoon at DisneyWorld.
