A vital service for families in Morley is “bursting at the seams” as demand soars.
Morley South Children’s Centre is seeing more families than ever as our communities feel the impact of job cuts and financial worries.
Mum Claire Nicholson turned to the team when she took over caring for two young relatives as well as her own son while pregnant.
“They’ve been my lifeline,” she said. “I would’ve broken down ages ago.”
Centre manager Jane Richards said they helped families dealing with all kinds of issues, including domestic violence, mental health problems and poverty.
“We offer much more than activities,” she said. “That’s just the lighthearted side of the work we do.”
The importance of the service was recognised this week by Leeds City Council and Morley and Outwood MP Ed Balls.
They have pledged to keep all three local centres running and make sure families get the support they need, despite tighter budgets.
