Morley firefighter helps Dagan get his new wheels

A Morley firefighter got his kit off for a charity calendar to raise money towards an off-road wheelchair for a local boy.
Jodie Allen, who was Mr May in the Red Hot Dates calendar, gave the money to 14-year-old Dagan Roberts, a keen sportsman who wants to buy an all-terrain wheelchair.
The calendar raised a total of £17,000, which was distributed to charities including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Laila Milly Foundation and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.
Mr Allen said: “Because we did so well and raised nearly £20,000 the organiser Dom Furby said we could each donate £300 to other charities.
“I got in touch with Dagan’s mum and asked her if there’s anything he needs, and she said he wants an off-road wheelchair for his sport.”
The specialist chair costs £7,000, and Mr Allen’s donation brings the money raised by Dagan’s mum to £3,000.
Mr Allen lives in Morley and works at Hunslet Station.
He was one of 16 West Yorkshire firefighters who appear in the inaugural calendar, and plans are already afoot for a 2014 edition.
He said: “There’s lots of banter but it’s all good fun.
“We’ve raised a lot of money and it’s a good laugh.”
