Morley L iterature Festival has a new woman in charge after its committee appointed a replacement for outgoing director Jenny Harris.

Alison Brumwell will take the helm for the 2014 festival which is due to take place in October.

Alison, one of three applicants interviewed for the post, was welcomed by chairman of the Morley Literature Festival Committee Coun Shirley Varley.

“All three applicants impressed the panel and it was an extremely difficult decision to make,” Coun Varley said.

“However the choice was unanimous. Alison has many great ideas that could allow the festival to go forward from the excellent position that our previous director has achieved.

“Alison has a great deal of literary knowledge and experience as she has a background working with libraries.

“ We are delighted that Alison has accepted the post and all the volunteers who help run the festival will give her all the support they can.”

Alison has said she intends to ‘hit the ground running’ as she takes up her new position as director of Morley Literature Festival.

“I am delighted to join the Morley Literature Committee as we move forward into the festival’s second decade,” she said.

The 2014 Morley Literature Festival is due to take place from October 4-12.
