Morley man jailed for sex attack on girl

BEHIND BARS: James Giles has been locked up for sexually assaulting a young girl.

BEHIND BARS: James Giles has been locked up for sexually assaulting a young girl.

A judge has locked up a Morley man, branding him a danger to young children.

James Giles, of Bruntcliffe Road, wasjailed for seven-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to child sex offences.

The 22-year-old admitted four sex assaults on a child under the age of 13 and one charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Bradford Crown Court heard a report into Giles’s behaviour made troubling reading.

It said he had expressed a sexual interest in children and was excited by things which were taboo.

Giles admitted carrying out the offences against a young girl last year.

Last Friday, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC praised Giles’ victim for her very clear account of the abuse.

He said her complaint to her mum and subsequent police interview had made the prosecution of Giles much easier.

Samples from Giles’s fingernail clipping were found to match the victim’s DNA.

Judge Hall jailed Giles for seven-and-a-half years, but said his time on licence would be extended by a further two-and-a-half years because of the danger he posed.

“In my judgement you pose a significant risk of serious harm to children if given the opportunity to be in their company alone,” he said.

“In other words you are a very real danger of abusing, or worse, little children.”

Giles was also ordered to go on the sex offenders’ register for life.
