Morley’s own marathon man will be tackling not just one major run this year but two – over 3,000 miles apart.

Craig Whiteley, 50, is busy preparing for the London Marathon on April 13 after which there will be no time to rest as just a week later he will be taking on the Boston Marathon in America on April 21.

This year alone, Craig is running six 10ks, four half marathons and three full marathons and will be heading off to the capital and the USA to raise funds for St Gemma’s Hospice in memory of his friend, John Smith, who was cared for by its staff.

Craig said: “It’s just an amazing place. They can’t do enough for you and get no other means of funding.”

Through fundraising marathons, Craig has already raised £7,150 for the hospice and hopes his next two major runs will take that total to £10,000.

“I’m not sure if this will be my last marathon or not.

“You can’t really get any bigger than London and Boston, so watch this space!”

Sponsorship forms are available at the Morley Dashers pub for anyone wanting to help Craig reach his target.

People can also sponsor him by visiting http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/CraigWhiteley.
