Morley meeting to be held over NHS changes

A major consultation has been launched to give people the chance to tell the local NHS what they think of proposed changes to health services.

People are urged to take part in the Meeting the Challenge consultation. which includes proposals for meeting the changing health needs of the local communities that use Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract hospitals.

The consultation will run until the end of May 2013.

These proposals are aimed at:

l Saving more lives,

l Improving patients’ experiences, outcomes and recovery rates,

l Bringing as many services as possible closer to where people live,

l Ensuring that health and social care professionals work more closely together,

l Making the best use of taxpayers’ money to maintain high quality health care, both now and for the future.

A series of public meetings and roadshows will be taking place over the three-month consultation period where people can find out more, ask questions and give their views.

One of these will be held at Morley Town Hall on Wednesdays, March 20 at 7pm.

Meetings will also be held on Monday, March 11 at 8pm at Dewsbury Town Hall and on Tuesday, March 12 at 7pm at Wakefield Town Hall.

Dr Phillip Earnshaw, Chair of NHS Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group who are leading the consultation, said: “We want to make sure that local services provide healthcare that is on a par with the best in the country, giving patients the best possible experience and results.

“We’re confident that these proposals will help us move towards this ambition but we want to know what people think.

“That’s why we have organised such a wide ranging programme of events.”

Confirmed dates for roadshows include Morley on Wednesday, May 1 , at Morrisons, Windsor Court from 9am-5pm.

They will also be held at Rothwell Morrisons on Wednesday, May 15 from 9am-5pm and in Wakefield city centre on Saturday, May 18 from 9am-5pm.

More dates are to be confirmed, details of which will be available at www.meetingthechallenge.co.uk along with anything else you want to know about the consultation.
