A Leeds city councillor has sent a letter of support for the redevelopment of a “historic landmark building” in the heart of Morley.

Coun Neil Dawson pledged his support for the former Pavilion theatre on High Street which could become 14 residential apartments along with a bar and deli.

He said: “I support this application as it will bring much needed economic development in to the town centre and will help stimulate growth and footfall at the top end of Queen Street.”

The building has remained unused for the past few years. Previously the Pavilion has been a theatre, cinema, bingo hall, nightclub and restaurant since it was built in 1911, and was one of the venues where Ernie Wise began his career.
