A MORLEY school has been named as one of England’s 100 most improved primary schools.
Fountain Primary school was placed 36th in last year’s table based upon statistics released by the Department for Education from the 2012 Key Stage Two SATs results.
The table shows the percentage of pupils achieving a Level 4 and above in both maths and English and then compares the school’s current results with those it achieved in 2009.
Last year, 89 per cent of pupils made the grade, compared with 51 per cent in 2009, giving Fountain Primary an improved rate of 38 per cent.
The figures reflect the rapid progress the Morley school has made over the past three years and is the only Leeds school in the top 100.
Headteacher Andrew Eastwood said: “This is fantastic news. It was a real Christmas bonus.
“The whole school has worked really hard to put learning at the heart of all we do. The staff have been delighted at the way the children have embraced the skills needed for success and have risen to the challenges of improvement.”
Mr Eastwood said the whole community have been behind the drive to make Fountain Primary a good and improving school with the support of parents who, he says, have been very supportive of the changes.
He also said local schools have worked together to ensure that primary education in Morley is as good as it can be.
Mr Eastwood added: “We are in the strange position of looking forward to an Ofsted inspection,” . “We want to show everybody what a super school we are.”
