Charitable children put on their Red Noses and had a heap of fun for Comic Relief on Friday.

Pennies and pounds were dropped into fundraising buckets across the town as school children - and supermarket staff - joined the rest of the country for Red Nose Day 2013.

Newlands Primary School dressed up, had a bun sale and numerous sponsored activities, such as a sponsored silence and laps around the playing field, to raise cash.

Children and staff and Seven Hills Primary School held an odd sock day, where everyone was invited to wear odd socks for the day with donations of 50p put inside a pair of giant socks in the school playground and raised over £100 throughout the day.

Woodkirk Academy’s School Council raised a huge amount of money by organising a red nose themed bake sale with lots of delicious treats. They arranged fun games with all money raised going directly to the Comic Relief charity. Pupils also raised money by holding a non-uniform day and by making a donation for coming into school wearing red accessories.

So far, they have raised £600 with donations still being counted.

Smiley Dayz children’s nursery joined in the fun attending nursery dressed in red for a £1 donat ion.

The nursery also held a bun sale for all the parents. The children baked, had there face and nails painted and lots of fun was had by all.

Churwell Primary School got into the charitable spirit with all things red, along with Thorpe Primary and Asquith Primary.

But it wasn’t only our schools that had a day of fundraising.

Sainsbury’s at the White Rose Shopping Centre had a number of events going on throughout the day to entertain shoppers and get them involved with fundraising.
