MEMBERS of Morley Christian Aid joined with Morley MP Ed Balls on Friday to highlight how tax dodgers are hurting the poor in the UK and abroad.
Eddie Wilson, the group’s chairman said: “It is a scandal that tax dodging by some unscrupulous multi-national companies keeps some people poor whilst others get richer.
“We met with our MP, Ed, to ask him to help us put pressure on the Prime Minister to act to end the financial secrecy that enables tax dodging to happen,” In response Mr Balls, the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, spoke of the importance of pursing financial transparency.
The meeting came ahead of the arrival in Morley of the Tax Justice Bus, a mobile exhibition set up by Christian Aid and Church Action on Poverty.
On Thursday, October 11 from 9am-10am the bus will be parked next to Morley Town Hall and shoppers invited on board to learn more.
The two charities are calling on David Cameron to use his global influence to end financial secrecy so tax dodgers will have nowhere to hide.
