Morley’s MP will be one of over 1,000 runners in this year’s Wakefield 10K Fun Run raising money for a very good cause.

Ed Balls is in training for the annual event, which is in its 19th year and will take place on Sunday April 6 at Thornes Park with all proceeds going to Wakefield Hospice.

The popular local event aims to raise £40,000 to care for local patients with an end of life condition.

The Morley and Outwood MP will be joined on the challenge by over 1,300 runners, including his constituency office colleagues and Horbury councillor Rory Bickerton.

Mr Balls said: “Wakefield Hospice does such important work supporting people across our area and I’m delighted to have been asked to start the race this year.

“Times are tough for people at the moment but if people can, it would be great to get as much sponsorship as possible for such an important cause.”

Danielle Cain, event organiser, said: “We are delighted that Ed and his team will be joining us to raise funds for patients and their families living with an end of life diagnosis here in Wakefield.

“We hope it will inspire other local runners to join the run too.”

“Anyone who wants to donate can do so via my office or at http://www.justgiving.com/”

For those who would like to take part, enter online at: www.wakefieldhospice.org or call 01924 213900.

The 10K starts at 9am with the Mascot Race will be at 10am followed by the Fun Run.
