Coun Robert Finnigan has been installed as the new representative for Scatcherd on Morley Town Council.
Coun Finnigan, who has lived in the ward since 2000, is a Morley Borough Independent councillor on Leeds City Council.
He was given his new duty at a full town council meeting last night, fighting off competition from four other candidates.
Each candidate gave a five-minute presentation about themselves to the council and explained why they believed they would be best suited to the role.
It is the first ever time such as process has been used to select a town councillor in Morley.
Coun Finnigan said that Morley Town Council had a “strong campaigning element” of which he was “very keen to be a part of.”
He replaces former councillor Paul Cook, who resigned while council leader in July this year.
