A third book of old photographs taken by celebrated Morley photographer Leslie Overend is to be published.

Overend’s Morley 1974-1983, by journalist Stephen White, will feature 100 pictures of Morley people at work and play taken by the late freelance photographer Leslie Overend.

The new book covers the last decade of Leslie’s career and follows Stephen’s previous titles, Overend’s Morley 1960-1969 and Overend’s Morley 1970-1979.

Leslie first started taking pictures in Morley in 1926 when he covered the mayor-making ceremony of Ald Thomas Albert Buttery. He continued taking pictures in the town and surrounding area until ill-health forced him to retire in March 1983.

Mr White said: “In almost 60 years of working in and around Morley, Leslie got to know thousands of people – and took tens of thousands of pictures.

“Hidden away in the many boxes of negatives he accumulated over his long working career is the story of Morley and its people.

“The latest 100 pictures includes a fascinating mix of sports teams, pub groups, church gatherings and work and charity events as well as a selection of schools and clubs.”

Overend’s Morley 1974-1983 will be published on October 1, priced at £12.99, plus £2 postage and packing.

But if you order before September 1 you can take advantage of a special limited discount offer - you can buy a copy for £10.99, plus £2 p&p (saving £2) and have your name or a dedication printed in the book.
