A proposal to provide a 55-pitch site for travellers in Morley has been reduced to 35 pitches.
The amended plan has been submitted to Leeds City Council’s planning department, which reduces the number of pitches from 55 to 35 and proposed increased environmental planting.
Coun Robert Finnigan said: “I am informed by planners that the 1,500-plus objections they have already received will count as objections to the new proposal.
Residents will get letters to confirm the new proposal but they can be assured that their opposition to the plan will be carried over.
“This is an overly large site on significantly contaminated land and is an inappropriate location for a traveller site.
“I have been delighted at the support we have received from local residents with our campaign to block this proposal. Other areas in Leeds need to take their fair share of travellers sites and not leave it to Morley to always accommodate them.”
The proposal will be discussed by a Plans Panel at Leeds City Council later this month where councillors will be able to raise their concerns.
The applicant has been served with two planning Stop Notices and an order as also been obtained by Leeds City Council to prevent any further demolition or development work on the site.
