TWO new housing developments could be on their way to Tingley if planners show them the green light.

Proposals for 14 houses to be built on Westerton Road and a further 14 on Waterwood Close have been submitted to Leeds City Council’s planning department.

The first plan is to build 14 two, three and four bedroomed houses with access road, garages and car parking spaces at the junction of Westerton Road and Waterwood Close.

The application says that the development includes the demolition of the existing Church of the Nativity building and associated structures.

People living close to the brownfield site have already lodged their concerns with the planning department, saying that one reason they object is because of the increased traffic it would bring to the area.

But it seems there is more concern about the development at Waterwood Close.

Over a dozen objections to the Waterwood Close housing plan have been made, including a letter from Morley MP Ed Balls, who wrote a letter asking for planning chiefs to take one particular resident’s concerns into
consideration.

Jean Garlick, of Waterwood Close, contacted Mr Balls with her concerns over the size and scale of both applications.

He said: “Mrs Garlick is concerned that these two applications, representing 14 new properties each, taken together would represent a substantial over development in the area, with increased traffic and on street parking as well as the impact on the character of the area.

In her objection letter, Mrs Garlick says that there are already parking problems with just nine properties that are on the road now.

“What’s it going to be like with all the additional vehicles that the new development will generate?” She said.

She said: “I do not know how they can it is sustainable. The schools are full and there will be an impact on the medical centre.

“I believe Leeds Planning should think again about letting this unallocated greenfield site be developed.”
