It’s been a double celebration for children and staff at Westerton primary with a new headteacher being appointed just in time for their school party.

Following the retirement of James Reid, the governing body of the school announced that former deputy head Stephanie Makin has been appointed as the school’s new headteacher.

Ms Makin said: “It has been my privilege to have been a member of the teaching team at Westerton for many years. It has also been an honour to have been a senior manager for the past decade, working with such dedicated colleagues in a very supportive and innovative educational environment.

“I am thrilled to be the new headteacher here and very much look forward to helping our children thrive as they embrace the challenges of the future.

“One of my most important tasks this week has been to ‘make some shapes’ on the dance floor at our school disco. This event has been organised by our very able and enthusiastic school council and is a very important event in the school’s fundraising calendar.”

The school disco, which was held on Friday, has been the hot topic of conversation in school this week.

The whole event was organised by the School Council, who made every decision from what sweets and juice party-goers should have to what the tickets should look like and how much to sell them for.

Then at the event, they even manned the tuck shop and are now using their mathematical skills to tot up their profit.
