IN just over an hour thousands of people will be glued to their TV screens to watch Leeds boxer Nicola Adams fight her way to that gold medal - and there will be one special spectator cheering her on.

Nicola’s pet Doberman Dexter is being cared for by Tingley’s Mypetstop boarding kennels and is hoping his owner will come back home with a gold medal - one to match his.

The determined 29-year-old punched her way to an 11-6 victory against India’s Mary Kom in front of a cheering crowd, which included boxing icon Amir Khan and Prime Minister David Cameron, and will step into the ring again at 4.30pm this afternoon to face China’s world number one, Ren Cancan.

And Nicola was so keen for Dexter to see her Olympic journey that she paid for him to have access to a television while he is staying at the kennels.

Sheli Dobbie, manager at Mypetstop, said: “All our TVs are secured in a safe compartment within our boarding apartments and it’s not uncommon for some of our customers to request a TV for their pet.

“However, this will certainly be a first where the dog can watch their owner - especially in the Olympics - so I’m sure Dexter will be excited.

“All our fingers and paws are crossed that she can bring home the gold medal. Dexter definitely won’t be too far away from the action.”
