People across Morley urged to donate blood

People are being urged to give blood at sessions across Morley this year.

People in Morley are being asked to make 2014 the year they start saving lives by giving blood.

With the festive season at an end, NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is hoping people will pledge to become regular blood donors for their New Year resolutions.

Hospitals need 7,000 units of blood each day to treat patients with chronic conditions like cancer and anaemia, along with people needing treatment for often life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

Now the NHSBT is encouraging new or returning donors to book an appointment.

In Morley, a session will be held on Wednesday January 15 at the town hall.

It will be open from 2pm-4pm and 5pm-7.30pm.

Anyone aged 17-65, weighing more than seven stone 12lbs and in good health can become a donor.

There is no upper age limit for donors and who have given blood in the last two years.
