Plans continue to revitalise town centre

DISCUSSIONS have taken place on what is the best way to revitalise Morley as a leading centre for retail and culture.
The town was awarded £10,000 as part of the Government High Street Innovation Fund in November, following the Mary Portas review of the UK high street.
The funding went towards the launch of the There’s More to Morley campaign which has been masterminded by Morley events manager Rachael Kennedy.
It aims to inject vitality into the town centre, building on its existing success and encouraging visitors from outside the area to return.
In the session, held at the White Rose, business and civic leaders discussed strategies which could help improve the marketing and positioning of Morley.
Mrs Kennedy said: “There were 28 recommendations in the report by retail expert Mary Portas designed to help high streets to survive and thrive in the current economic downtown, and against these recommendations it is clear that Morley is performing better than many towns of equivalent size, through free parking, having a town centre team in place and working with larger retail organisations acting as mentors.”
