POLICE are appealing for help finding clothes discarded by a suspected burglar in an attempt to change his appearance following a break-in.

The man, who has been bailed pending further inquiries, was arrested on Britannia Road at 3.25pm on September 26 wearing just a t-shirt and shorts, though it was pouring with rain.

Around 20 minutes earlier he had been challenged and chased by a PCSO investigating a house alarm going off on East View in Gildersome.

A patio window had been broken and Apple iPod Touch, Lumix digital camera, a Gap handbag and a dance bag containing exercise clothes had been stolen.

The bags were recovered but police believe the other items may have been stashed along with the man’s clothes somewhere between East View and Britannia Road.

Insp Paul Sullivan of Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “If anyone has found a small BMX bike deserted in their garden or hidden down the side of a garage they must ring us immediately.

“Likewise, we are looking for a pair of blue jeans, dark green camouflage coat, a black scarf and the stolen property potentially concealed in the area.”

Anyone with any information about the missing items should ring the police via the non-emergency number 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
