ONE day, two wheels, 46 miles and several weeks of pain and worry - but a Radio Aire charity fundraiser has completed a challenge to help a Morley boy.

Radio Aire presenter Dan Morfitt and a group of fellow fundraisers took to their saddles to raise funds for 12-year-old Aiden Lowe, who needs a special tricycle, and smashed their £1,000 target.

With donations from listeners, staff, local businesses and more, the team raised £1,335 and the figure is still rising.

Dan’s bike is also being auctioned off for Cash for Kids which should raise the final total even more.

Aiden, of Wesley Street, was just four years old when he was involved in a tragic house fire, which resulted in the loss of his two brothers, one of whom was his twin brother, Kieran.

Aiden himself received 60p per cent burns and suffered a massive seizure.

When Dan heard about his plight he arranged to help raise funds by taking on the Lap of Leeds challenge, stopping off at Morley Fire Station, The Bike Shop Cross Gates to say a quick thank you for their help and for donating the bikes and gear, and even a little stop at Headingley Carnegie Stadium before making it straight back to the radio station on Kirkstall Road where Aiden, his family and lots of well-wishers were there to welcome Dan and the team back.

Dan said: “I didn’t think I’d manage to cycle 42 miles, let alone the 46 miles we ended up doing. I kept going though, thanks to a great team supporting me, not to mention the £1,000 target I had in my mind the whole way.

“I knew that I had to carry on if we were to get Aiden his specially adapted tricycle, and the look on his face when we arrived back was so worth it.

“I’ll be up in Morley soon to ride with him. But I’ve now got to find some Savlon - I’m aching!”
