Shortlists drawn up for 2012 Morley Business Awards

BUSINESSES across Morley face an anxious wait to hear if they will be the winners of the 2012 Morley Business Awards.

The judges met last week to draw up the shortlists for each category covering everything from charities and one person start-ups to established organisations employing  hundreds.

The shortlisted businesses have been notified but the names of the winners have been placed in sealed envelopes and will remain a secret until the awards ceremony on October 19.

Chair of judges Mark Goldstone of Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We were impressed by the very high standard of the entries, which show that Morley has a thriving and diverse business community.

“What particularly impressed us was the fact that the majority of the short-listed entrants have plans for further recruitment.”

The shortlisted businesses and organisations include: Elamis Restaurant, Robrook Press Ltd, Activzone, Morley Amateur Operatic Society, Cards for All Occasions, Crabtree & Sons Funeral Directors, Abbey House Vets, Countersales Uk Ltd, Firefly Associates, Apollo Fisheries, Board to Tiers, Ties Planet Ltd, Hytal Kitchens and Bedrooms, Cucina Cafe, Bar and Restaurant, Royal Society of St George, Crispin Shoe Shop, Churwell CIC, Innercore Advanced Skin and Health Clinic.

They have been invited to the awards ceremony and dinner dance in Morley Town Hall will be hosted by Morley Chamber of Trade and Commerce, who will be joined for the evening by its partners, Land Securities and the White Rose Shopping Centre.

Sponsors including Chargeback Ltd, Smith Robinson Ltd, Robrook Press Ltd, Northern Accountants Ltd, Norguard Leeds and Unity Trust plc will also be at the event that will include a keynote speech by Sarah Dunwell, CEO and founder of the award winning social enterprise, Create.
