A school has collected almost £1,000 with a sponsored bike ride to raise money for a new playground.
Morley Newlands Primary is a new school build and, at present, does not have a proper playground. To raise funds, and in honour of Yorkshire’s Grand Depart, years four and upwards cycled on exercise bikes and the younger children went around a small circuit.
Year four teacher Mrs Janet Munro said: “All of the older children cycled between three and four kilometres on their bikes. Some of the cycling took place during PE lessons and the maths department got involved by timing circuits in lessons.”
The new playground has been designed by Leeds students and will be built by Brazilian students during the summer.
