The winner of the Observer & Advertiser’s Mother’s Day competition, Lesley Kirkpatrick, was spoilt by her daughter for a whole day at the White Rose Shopping Centre.

Three-year-old Lucy Dunleavy nominated her mum to win £700 in vouchers to be spent at stores throughout the shopping haven back in March when we ran the competition.

Lesley, 41, was shocked to find out she had been selected, she did not suspect a thing until her husband, Paul Dunleavy, 44, told her the day before. She said: “He told me that I was going to be surprised, but then thought he better tell me because I would kill him if I didn’t have my hair done for the photos!”

Prizes included clothes, jewellery, food and even spa treatments.

“I had a fantastic day, I got vouchers for Debenhams, New Look and some spa treatments like a facial.

“I haven’t unpacked everything yet, it is all still upstairs in the bags. I feel really spoilt, Mother’s Day was back in March, it is like I am being spoilt all over again.”

Lesley, who had an accident five years ago which shattered her spine and now has a spinal cord stimulator fitted in her stomach, is a loving mother and in her winning entry Lucy said: “Even when she has a bad day she always dresses me, takes me to school, takes me swimming then always makes me happy and does everything for me.

“She deserves it as we give each other cuddles to keep each other going, she the best mum in the world.”

Lucy, who goes to nursery at Seven Hills Primary, would not spoil the surprise for her mum. “All she said was ‘you are going to be spoilt mummy’.

“I just want to thank the White Rose and The Morley Observer & Advertiser for picking Lucy’s story,” Lesley said.
