MEMBERS of a Churwell church are hoping to find the owner of a brass crucifix and other items turned in to them before Christmas.
The ornate cross was found dumped in Middleton Wood by a walker who, not knowing what else to do with it, brought it to All Saints on Elland Road.
Coun Joyce Sanders, whose husband Ken is a church warden, said they had contacted the Salvation Army to see if it had been stolen from them in a burglary before Christmas.
They also contacted the police to see if the items, which included an empty box that may have held coins or medals, had been reported stolen.
Having drawn a blank, they are now hoping that someone might recognise it and help ensure it gets back to its proper owner.
If anyone has lost such a cross recently or who knows someone who might have, they should contact Ken and Joyce Sanders on 0113 253 3327.
