Swiss adventure for Morley Guides.

MORLEY District Rangers have just returned from an unforgettable adventure in Switzerland and Disneyland Paris.

A group of four girls, aged 15-18, tried everything from white water rafting to tobogganing and visited wood carvers and waterfalls on the coach trip organised by Girlguiding Horsforth North.

Lucy Thomas, 16, said: “I really enjoyed the trip to Switzerland because it gave me a chance to see what life is like in a different country, as well getting to know rangers from another unit and trying really fun adventurous activities like white water rafting.

“I made lots of new friends and I learned a lot from seeing the things that are different and the things that are the same about living in Switzerland.”

The group stayed in a chalet near Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland, an area known for its natural beauty and traditional way of life.

They were kept busy with mountain hikes and rafting, visits to the local town and to a farm that produces cheese and on the way back home they stopped off at Disneyland Paris.

Lucy, along with her friends Debra Hemsely, Louise Dawson and Hannah Potts helped pay for the trip by bag packing, selling woggles and holding a number of coffee mornings.

The group’s leader, Claire Fowkes said: “The girls all got a lot out of the trip and they were all sad to leave. Travelling abroad as a group is so important as it gives the girls a sense of other cultures and customs while also getting the opportunity to have a sense of independence by planning the trip themselves.

“I am really proud of the young women for leading by example to the younger girls on the trip and being a credit to Guiding.”
