Yorkshire-based charity Heart Research UK are urging Morley residents to take part in their 18th annual Three Peaks Challenge.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday June 21 and this year there will be a new 14 mile route called The Valleys Walk to encourage more families to take part.

Rebecca Grattan and her son William of St Andrew’s Avenue, Morley, did the event for Heart Research UK last year.

They were raising money for research into heart disease after Rebecca’s mother-in-law, and William’s grandmother, Christine Grattan, died of a heart condition.

William, 14, a pupil at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield, was tackling his first Three Peaks event last year.

He said: “By the time we got to Whernside I thought it was quite hard, it was pretty hard all the way round but I feel much better for doing it.”

In 2013 the challenge attracted around 300 people and although it is not a race, the challenge is to complete all three peaks in less than 12 hours,

Entry is free but walkers have to raise as much money as possible for the charity to take part sign up at www.heartresearch.org.uk.
