AN UP and coming band are hoping to strike a chord with the public with a charity single in aid of terminally ill children.

The Sighting, whose Morley and Dewsbury members won the Leeds Local Unsigned competition in 2010, have written and released World’s Gone Mad, which is available on iTunes with all proceeds going to Briony’s Gift.

The charity was set-up in memory of Briony Woodward, who died in 2007 after a two-year battle with childhood cancer.

More than £1,500 has been raised so far by Briony’s Gift, which grants wishes to children being treated for life-limiting illnesses at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Drummer Mike Diskin said: “Our keyboard player Lee Hough is a friend of Darron Woodward, who lost his daughter Briony.

“He came to us a few months ago asking if we would be interested in doing a special gig for the charity and we said we’d go one step further and record a single.

“It’s a collaboration from all of us in the band. We all like to contribute to the songwriting process and we all get involved in it.

“We wanted to write something about how cruel it is that little kids can struggle with illnesses and try to encapsulate that in a song and make it catchy at the same time.”

The single was recorded at Loom Studios in Birstall and Mike said the band had received some positive feedback from Briony’s parents Darron and Meayla.

He added: “They were really chuffed. They said they weren’t expecting anything quite so professional – I don’t know if that reflects well on us or not!

“We just thought we’d put it out there and anything we can raise is great, but obviously the more the better as all the money raised will go to terminally ill children.”
