Thorpe kids stage their mini Olympics
Mini Olympics at Winthorpe community centre. Rebecca Makepeace does the high jump
THE Olympics may have packed up for another four years but there was one community who has kept the torch well and truly lit.
Residents on the Winthorpe estate in Thorpe held their own mini-Olympics complete with a medal ceremony for the winning athletes at their community centre.
Children battled it out taking a leap for the high jump, throws in the javelin and shot put and showed their skills at football.
Parents, friends and neighbours were the spectators, all cheering the energetic and competitive athletes of the future.
The overall winner and Olympic champion was Joe Bray who walked away with four gold medals, which were presented by Coun Jack Dunn, who also kindly provided the equipment for the day’s fun event. Andrea Evans, one of the organisers, said: “It was a fantastic day and the children had a great time and can’t wait until the next Olympics.
“We may be a small community, but we have a lot of heart.”
