PEOPLE from Tingley and East Ardsley have added their objections to plans by Leeds City Council to allow the building of up to 2,000 homes in the area.

Around 70 people attended a meeting at Tingley WMC organised by the Morley Borough Independents to discuss the Leeds Local Development Framework (LDF) core strategy.

The strategy which was launched in January proposes to set aside land to allow for the building of 70,000 homes across Leeds between now and 2028.

In the plan the East Ardsley and Tingley area is earmarked for 1,000-2,000 houses.

At the meeting groups from Bruntcliffe, Daisy Hill and Chidswell, spoke about their own planning battles and the need for everyone to work together.

Coun Robert Finnigan, the leader of the MBIs said: “People were fed up. There were people from East Ardsley and Tingley who wanted to try to understand what it was about because they felt that despite our efforts, and the coverage in the Observer & Advertiser, that there hadn’t been enough information about the consultation process from Leeds City Council.”

The public consultation came to an end on April 11 and those attending the meeting queued up afterwards to sign letters objecting to the plan.

Altogether Leeds City Council received over 1,000 letters of objections to the LDF from people across the Morley area.

Coun Finnigan said Leeds planning officers and the executive board will now look at the objections, possibly propose changes and then bring it back to full council for a vote.

He said he would continue to speak out against the plans on the grounds that the population projection it was based on was wrong, that there had been no co-operation between neighbouring authorities before they published their plans and that brownfield sites should always be prioritised over greenfield sites.

The next step is that an independent, government appointed planning inspector will look at the LDF and at people’s objections and will call a session in Morley where most of the objections have come from.
