A CRIMEWATCH appeal to catch a bogus caller who duped an 73-year-old Tingley women out of money has gone out on national television.
The appeal by West Yorkshire Police detectives was shown on BBC1’s Crimewatch Roadshow yesterday morning.
It showed a reconstruction of crime on The Crescent at Tingley, which took place at around 5.55pm on Friday, April 27 when the man called at the pensioner’s house saying he was from the police and claiming there was a check needed on her home security.
The pensioner allowed him into her house where he stole a large quantity of money before leaving in a white Ford Transit van.
It is believed the same man stole from another pensioner in the same way in Beeston at around 5.15pm on the same day.
On both occasions the man is described as wearing uniform-style clothing and used a fake identity card.
Anyone with information is urged to call police via the non-emergency number 101.
