A GROUP of Tingley school children took a VIP trip to the White Rose Shopping Centre on the Arriva Santa Shuttle Bus, after winning a competition to visit Father Christmas in his grotto.

Arriva Yorkshire and White Rose teamed up to offer a class of lucky school children the opportunity to win a festive treat, which included a VIP trip to the centre to meet Santa.

A total of 29 pupils from Blackgates Primary School won the competition after being nominated by their teacher, Steve White, to reward them for their fantastic attendance record throughout the school year.

Nikki Appleton, marketing manager at White Rose Shopping Centre, said: “All of the children from Blackgates Primary School were absolutely fantastic and it was great to see them arriving on the Arriva Santa Shuttle Bus – they were all so excited to meet the man himself.”

The children were picked up by the double-decker from the school gates and driven to the centre where they had exclusive access to Santa’s grotto and spent the afternoon meeting the man himself and singing Christmas songs.

Mr White, who accompanied the children on the Santa Shuttle, said: “We were delighted the children won the competition, as their attendance has been excellent since they came back to school in September and it was the perfect way to reward them for all their hard work.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to the White Rose and Arriva Yorkshire for choosing Blackgates as the winner of the competition. The children had a fantastic time and really enjoyed meeting Santa, it was the perfect way to end to the school term.”
