Traffic chaos caused misery for commuters across the district this morning (Thursday).

West Yorkshire Police confirmed there was an incident involving three cars at junction 31 (Castleford) on the M62 eastbound carriageway at 8.25am.

The damage-only collision caused traffic to back up to junction 30 at Rothwell.

At the same time on the westbound side of the carriageway, a swan was spotted walking in the opposite direction on the hard shoulder at junction 31.

Eye witnesses reported traffic being held back by highway officials, causing a half-mile tailback.

Earlier this morning a cyclist was injured in a road traffic incident on Doncaster Road at Wragby, closing the road into Ackworth.

The incident at 6.45am involved an LDV Maxus van and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended the scene.

Police confirmed the male cyclist was taken to Pinderfields Hospital with a badly broken leg and the road has been reopened.
