Tributes are being paid to Morley town councillor Joe Tetley who died at the weekend.

Coun Tetley, who represented Churwell and was a former Mayor of Morley, was also chairman of Morley Community Archive Group and the Leeds branch of the Royal Society of St George.

He was also a committee member of Morley in Bloom and Morley Murals Committee and was a keen local historian and writer.

Coun Tom Leadley said his council colleague would “certainly be missed”.

“He will be remembered not just for his work on the town council, but also with the Royal Society of St George and the work he put into Morley’s St George’s Festival.

“He was certainly very well known in Churwell, where he stood three times for the council and came top of the poll on each occasion.”

* We will be publishing a full tribute to Coun Tetley in Wednesday’s Observer & Advertiser. If anyone would like to add their own tribute please leave your messages below.
