Police have said that it was the newly opened Tesco Express on Westerton Road that armed robbers targeted on Wednesday night - not East Ardsley.
A police spokeswoman initially said it was the Bradford Road store, but has now corrected the mistake.
The incident happened at 10.37pm on Wednesday, just one day after the Westerton Road Tesco Express officially opened its doors.
Det Insp Paul Conroy of Leeds CID said: “Four men have entered the store on Westerton Road, with two men climbing over the counter and putting cigarettes in to a sack, while another of the men, reportedly carrying a sledgehammer, has threatened staff members.
“The men have then made off from the scene in a blue BMW car. A car matching the description of the vehicle used by the suspects was later found, parked and unattended, in Old Run View, Belle Isle.
“Thankfully no-one was injured in this incident but we understand it will cause some concern in the local community. Extensive enquiries are ongoing and we have increased patrols in the area for reassurance.
“We would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or believes they saw the BMW being driven in to Old Run View to call Leeds CID on 101.”
