Wetherspoons confirm continued interest in Morley sites
Latest news...
AS pub chain JD Wetherspoon announced plans to create 1,200 jobs this year it has also confirmed that a site in Morley town centre is still being looked at.
Wetherspoons’ plans will see 30 pubs open in towns and cities across the country, adding to its current total of 866 pubs and bars.
It has confirmed that it is to invest more than £35m in areas such as Selby and Whitby, but is still keeping tight lipped about its interest in Morley.
A spokesman has said: “We can confirm we are specifically looking at a couple of sites in the town and are in negotiations on them.”
The pub chain confirmed in March last year that it had identified a site in the town but was keeping its whereabouts tightly under wraps.
Three sites have been suggested by local businesses and people in the town, namely the building previously the site of Going Places travel agents and bingo hall on the corner of Albion Street, the Old Pavilion on South Queen Street and the site of The Albion pub on Bridge Street.
A Facebook site has also been set up called Support for Morley Wetherspoons, which has attracted over 120 members.
