Fast food giants McDonald’s have failed in their appeal for permission to build a drive-through restaurant in Tingley.

It is the fourth time the fast food chain has been refused permission to demolish the vacant White Bear pub off Tingley roundabout and build a two storey restaurant with drive-thru and associated parking and landscaping.

Over 1,000 people objected to the proposal citing problems with traffic generation, noise, litter and associated anti-social behaviour.

Stop Tingley McDonald’s shared the good news with its members last night (Tuesday) after the Observer and Advertiser went to press.

Coun Wyn Kidger said she wa--s ecstatic at the planning inspector’s decision.

“It is absolutely brilliant news,” she said.

“It’s nearly six months since the inspector came out to see the site.

“I would like to thank all the local people who have helped the campaign since the very first application was submitted.

“We are really pleased with the decision.”
