Two public exhibitions outlining the White Rose Centre expansion plans in detail are being held over the next two days.

Last week the Observer & Advertiser revealed the proposals which could see a cinema complex, four restaurants and several store expansions if the plans are given the go-ahead by Leeds City Council.

The first exhibition will be held tomorrow (Friday) from 11am-8pm in the Alexandra Hall of Morley Town Hall.

The second will be on Saturday in the Upper Circle of the White Rose Centre from 10am-5pm.

Meanwhile, Morley’s MP Ed Balls has welcomed plans to extend the White Rose Centre but has said it’s vital the expansion is good for the town.

“With the economy in recession and families really feeling the pinch, it’s extremely welcome news that new plans are being made from the owners at White Rose that could bring a thousand new jobs, new leisure facilities plus other investment into this area,” Mr Balls said.

“But we need to make sure that as well as having great shopping and facilities down the road at White Rose, we also get a fair share out of any development or expansion for Morley too.

“Big developments on this scale usually bring with them benefits for the wider community.

“Local businesses in Morley continue to tell me how tough things are at the moment for them, and their customers.

“And while most people currently travel to White Rose by car, I want to see more of them combine shopping at White Rose with a trip into Morley.

“So I want to see local businesses and the local community here in Morley getting much more out of any developments in our area.”
