A Morley teenager is living his dream of working with animals after beating hundreds of applicants and winning a place on national television show Junior Vets.

Morley Cricket Club member, William Bell, 13, of Pawson Street, joined 1,000 other applicants from around the UK in a bid to win a place on the CBBC show.

Following a successful initial application, the remaining hopefuls then had to submit a video application and attend a casting day.

The shortlist was then cut down to six, William being one of the lucky few.

The show follows six young animal enthusiasts as they battle it out each week for the coveted prize of being named Head Vet.

The six hopefuls seek to impress leading vet Pete Manktelow as they treat poorly pets and wounded wildlife at Edinburgh University’s high-tech vet school.

William said: “It’s something I’ve always ben interested in.

“I like biology a lot and love animals.”

The combination of animals and TV is perfect for William, who is also a keen performer.

Next week he can be seen off the screen and on stage as he takes part in St Andrew’s Church’s annual pantomime production, Peter Pancake, from Thursday, February 21 to Saturday, February 23.

Sarah Bell, William’s mum said: “He’s always been a performer and doesn’t mind making himself look silly!”

Junior Vets airs every Monday evening at 5.45pm on the CBBC channel.

Tickets for the St Andrew’s Church production of Peter Pancake cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and can be purchased by calling 0113 2532717.
